EXTENSION: Training on Organic Container Gardening
Pangasinan State University- San Carlos Campus conducted a Training Organic Container Gardening, spearheaded by the pool of faculty of the College of Agriculture under the supervision of its College Dean, Dr. Balbina R. Gutierrez.
The goal of the said the training was to elevate the learning of the participants about organic container gardening that it is the art of planting and maintaining just about any organic vegetable or herb in temporary or permanent containers.
Hence, Sir Lester Arandia (CoAgri, Core Faculty) shared his knowledge on OCG, he advised the learners and the community members that when it comes to organic container gardening, there is a lot to know like its beneficial leap of learning videlicet, no yard is necessary, just about anyone can do it, few tools and materials are needed, it’s relatively inexpensive to start and maintain, container gardens are, for the most part, weed-free, no tilling or digging is necessary (and we do not recommend that for any type of garden, containers can be fitted and put in virtually any desired location, choose to put the garden in the most beneficial spot, better control over growing conditions, easier to protect plants from extreme or damaging weather conditions and grow edible herbs and vegetables.
At the end of the training, Sir Larry Soriano (CoAgri, Core Faculty), shared this burp “if you have started your own organic container garden, you should be proud of yourself! Pat yourself on the back for your work and enjoy all the limitless benefits that can come from it” to the diligent attendees of the training.
Truly, there’s a pot of gold in gardening!
Training Workshop on Bread and Pastry Making
EXTENSION: Training Skills Technology on Bread, Quick bread, and Pastry Baking
Pangasinan State University- San Carlos Campus conducted a Training Workshop on Training Skills Technology on Bread, Quickbreads and Pastry Baking for faculty, non-teaching personnel, students, barangay officials & community members of Barangay Payapa San Carlos City, Pangasinan, Shepherds Flock Cooperative, and other visitors on March 31, 2019, at Barangay Payapa San Carlos City, Pangasinan.
The goal of the said training was to help the participants learn the new technologies for bread and pastry as they venture into business. Participants learned how to mix, match and measure ingredients, especially the use of herbal plants as additives for perfect bread. The methods used in creating bread were demonstrated by the lecturer. Participants also learned the basics of baking ingredients and equipment, baking techniques, food sanitation, and safety.
During that course, Dr. Cesar Della, the campus Executive Director, said that such training supports the functions of extension programs of the University.
Dr. Marie Claire B. Briones, the Campus Dean of CHMBAC, during those times, delivered her inspirational message and took an eye on the basic concepts, skills, and techniques of baking, particularly in the identification of products, weights, and measures apart from the significant part of practical classes that cover topics of bread, cakes, pies puddings, and desserts. She ended her burp by congratulating all the participants and guests who attended the training!
Truly, it is a venture that costs worthwhile learning!
Training Workshop on Herbal Bread Making 2019
EXTENSION: Training Workshop on Herbal Bread Making
Pangasinan State University- San Carlos Campus conducted a Training Workshop on Herbal Bread Making training for faculty, non-teaching personnel, students, barangay officials & community members of Barangay Naguilayan San Carlos City, Pangasinan, GBNII Guardian Organization San Carlos Chapter, and other visitors on October 21, 2019, at the PSU-SCC research room.
The goal of the said training was to help the participants learn the new technologies for baking herbal bread as they venture into business. Participants learned how to mix, match and measure ingredients, especially the use of herbal plants as additives for perfect bread. The methods used in creating bread were demonstrated by the lecturer. Participants also learned the basics of baking ingredients and equipment, baking techniques, food sanitation, and safety.
During that course, Dr. Marie Claire B. Briones, the campus Executive Director, delivered her welcome remarks and highlighted that “extension” is one of the major functional areas that the university must undertake for it to be recognized and evaluated by experts. Dr. Briones emphasized the importance of business; a small entrepreneur in the community can elevate the life of the people.
She gave thanks also to the PSU administration headed by Dr. Dexter R. Buted, to the faculty, non-teaching personnel, students, barangay officials, organization, and other visitors who attended the said training.
To boot, Mr. Renato Ferrer, the administrative officer of the campus presented the participants- the barangay community, organization, faculty, non-teaching staff, and students who participated in the said activity.
On the top of that, Dr. Balbina Gutierrez rendered her inspirational message and talked about the significance of having training in baking, especially the benefits of herbal plants that are added as ingredients to food.
Moreover, Dr. Cristina Javier gave her talk on the overview of the training workshop. She focused on the basic concepts, skills, and techniques of baking, particularly on the identification of products, weights, and measures. She discussed the four (4 ) classes of herbal bread in which the participants well performed and the profitability gain for the bread products.
Into the bargain, Dr. Marmie R. Poquiz, the coordinator of Extension Services at that time, served as the lecturer. She discussed the importance of Herbal plants as additives in Bread and the techniques in baking, packaging, selling, and pricing.
Further, the participants gained new knowledge on dealing with chores and got more interest in baking. Participants were also taught about the different bread molding ideas, baking temperature, and commercial packaging.
Truly, it is training with amazing entrepreneurial learning!
Training Workshop on Meat Processing
EXTENSION: TRAINING ON MEAT PROCESSING
Pangasinan State University- San Carlos Campus conducted meat processing training for faculty, non-teaching personnel, students, barangay officials of Naguilayan San Carlos City, Guardian GBNII Organization, Shepherds Flock Cooperative, and other visitors held on March 29, 2019, at Naguilayan Basketball Court, San Carlos City, Pangasinan.
The goal of the said training was to help the participants gain knowledge on meat processing which they can use for entrepreneurial activities or micro business activities.
During that time, Dr. Cesar Della, the campus Executive Director in his welcome address stated that the training was “A corporate social responsibility.” He also emphasized the five patented technologies on the campus that made the PSU-SC the campus with the highest number of Patent Technologies.
To boot, Ms. Marmie Poquiz, the coordinator of Extension Service, served as the lecturer. She discussed the importance of meat processing, the rules in cooking, preparing, and storing foods, and how to start a meat processing business. “Iwasan ang katamaran; umisip ng paraan.” (Avoid laziness; think of a way) was the notable quote of Ms. Poquiz as a wake-up call for the participants to think of a way to earn a living- and meat processing is a good one.
After the lecture, the participants gained more interest as they had hands-on meat processing themselves. Everybody went home with smiles on their faces as they gained knowledge about meat processing and were motivated to make a business.
Truly, it is training with life-long learning!
Integration Of Lifelong Learning Through Stenography For Barangay Officials
The Pangasinan State University – San Carlos Campus conducted an extension activity entitled “Integration of Lifelong Learning through Stenography for Barangay Officials” for the barangay officials, barangay health workers, and SK officials of Barangay Payapa, San Carlos City, Pangasinan on April 6, 2022.
The ultimate purpose of the said training was to help impart knowledge on shorthand methods enabling the recipients to write as quickly as people speak during various proceedings and events, as well as introduce stenography as a profession. The participants learned the basics of the shorthand writing method as demonstrated by one of the resource speakers.
After the lecture, the participants further enhance the knowledge they have gained through a workshop. They were given sets of words and statements and they must successfully transcribe them using the shorthand method.
