On December 14, 2024, Pangasinan State University (PSU) San Carlos, led by Dr. Liza L. Quimson, successfully conducted an extension services program titled “Papaya, Okra, and Tomato Bread-Based Products.” This initiative, supported by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Carlos, under the leadership of Mayor Julier C. Resuello and the City Cooperative, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood Development Office, aimed to empower local residents by providing them with valuable skills in innovative food processing.

The program focused on creating bread-based products using locally grown papaya, okra, and tomatoes. This hands-on training introduced participants to sustainable and profitable food processing techniques, offering new opportunities to turn local produce into viable products. In doing so, the program promoted the use of homegrown ingredients while enhancing the community’s entrepreneurial and livelihood capabilities.

This collaborative effort between PSU San Carlos and the LGU of San Carlos emphasizes the importance of community-driven initiatives that foster economic growth, encourage the use of local resources, and equip residents with skills for long-term success. Through such programs, participants gain the knowledge to start new businesses, increase family incomes, and contribute to the overall development and well-being of the community.
