As part of the University’s commitment to environmental responsiveness, Pangasinan State University San Carlos Campus held a tree planting activity on June 5, 2024. Dr. Liza L. Quimson, Campus Executive Director, spearheaded the event through the office of campus extension services, led by Dr. April C. Abalos and represented by Mr. Reynante G. Rosal, Coordinator for Solid Waste Management, Pollution Control, and Energy Efficiency.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from various community sectors, including campus officials, faculty members, non-teaching personnel, and students. Also in attendance were officials from Barangay Roxas, headed by Brgy. Captain Edberto Millora; the Sangguniang Kabataan Council, led by Antoinette V. Muñoz; the PSU-SC Alumni Association, headed by Dr. Virgilio Padlan; and representatives from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Carlos City, under the administration of Mayor Julier Resuello. The City Cooperative, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood Development Office (CCELDO), headed by Ms. Arlaine M. De Vera, facilitated the LGU’s participation.
The day’s activities commenced with a short program, beginning with inspiring opening remarks from Dr. Quimson. She emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting environmental awareness and a culture of sustainability within the community. This was followed by a motivational message from Brgy. Kagawad Domingo Munoz and Dr. Virgilio Padlan, President of the PSU-SC Alumni Association, who highlighted the vital role of alums in supporting the University’s environmental goals.
The organizers held a Zumba session to infuse energy and enthusiasm among the participants, setting an upbeat tone before the tree planting commenced. Participants, equipped with fruit-bearing saplings and guided by designated area coordinators, dispersed to their respective planting zones, ready to contribute to the campus’ greener future.
The collaborative effort not only aimed at enhancing the green cover of the campus but also served as a practical demonstration of the University’s mission to be a proactive agent in environmental conservation. The tree planting activity reflects PSU-SC’s dedication to educating its community about the importance of ecological preservation and the collective action required to achieve it.
This event exemplifies the harmonious collaboration between the University, local government, and community members in promoting a sustainable environment for future generations.
