Pangasinan State University San Carlos Campus has initiated a profiling and outreach program dedicated to the sea gypsy communities in San Carlos City, Pangasinan. The program aims to enhance the understanding of the unique challenges faced by sea gypsies, also known as the Badjao community, and to develop targeted outreach and extension initiatives to address their specific needs.

Spearheaded by the College of Teacher Education under the guidance of Dr. Myra C. Catungal, College Dean, and the Campus Extension Services Unit, headed by Dr. April C. Abalos, this collaborative effort involves active participation from faculty members representing the College of Teacher Education, CHMBAC, College of Agriculture, Non-teaching Personnel, and student leaders from various organizations. Additionally, representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP) San Carlos are actively engaged in this concerted endeavor.

The profiling and needs assessment process involved meticulous data collection, interviews, and community engagement to gain valuable insights into their cultural practices, economic conditions, and social dynamics.

As part of the initiative, faculty members, campus officials, and student leaders actively engaged in an outreach program, delivering essential items like food and clothing to the sea gypsy community.
